Remote Savannah To Tangled Jungle

Uganda is often associated with the gorillas in the mist but the truth is it’s simply packed full of surprises; enough new experiences to go back time and again. The tangled jungle and forests of south and west Uganda are phenomenal to explore - it’s like being in your own documentary but take the time to travel north and you will get the big game and classic African savannah landscapes of neighbouring countries without having to leave Uganda at all. To top it all the Nile is here too with its crocs and hippos, thunderous rapids, waterfalls and exceptional sunsets. Uganda is an African dream; come and enjoy it.

African Wilderness

Kidepo Valley, located in the far north east corner of the Karamoja region, is Uganda’s most magnificent wilderness. Herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra and giraffe and countless antelope roam the savannah against the backdrop of the mountains of South Sudan and Kenya. Hyena, lions, cheetah and leopard roam this grassy landscape and the Karamajong people are not to be missed.

Gorillas in the Jungle

This is one of those life altering experiences so hard to put in to words. As you trek through the jungle the level of anticipation builds to the point where when you are then among nature at its most raw like this, you nearly forget to breathe. This is a privilege of an exploration. Exhilarating really doesn’t even come close. Uganda now has almost 800 of these precious Mountain Gorillas, found via trails through the Bwindi Impenetrable forest; an incredible hike and experience in itself.

Primates Galore

If you are passionate about primates, you will just love Uganda. There are eleven different types of monkey here from the Colobus and the Grey Cheeked Mangabey to Golden Monkeys and Chimpanzees. Trekking them on foot through forest and jungle or spotting them from your safari truck within the incredible wilderness of the national parks is a great adventure and gives you time to enjoy the privilege of their company within their natural habitats. Kibale National Forest, Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National park are some of our favourite forested spots for this exploration.

Rivers & Lakes

There is something rather magical about a safari by boat and Uganda has countless watery wonders to explore. An early morning trip on Lake Albert, sunset viewing of crocs, hippos and birdlife on Lake Mburo, a slow journey up the Kazinga channel perhaps or sundown cheese and wine on the Nile. Lake Victoria boasts the Source of the Nile too - as you float gently across the lake look out for otters and Nile Monitor Lizards.

A Birding Paradise

With almost 1100 bird species, Uganda is a dream location for watchers of these beautiful creatures. The behaviours, flight patterns, calls and interactions of Uganda’s birds are completely fascinating from the bee-eaters that make their homes in the lime cliffs by the Nile at Murchison to the pre-historic shoebill found among the swamps, the giant, scavenging Maribu storks and tiny yellow weaver birds to the twinkling blues of a host of starlings the birds alone are worth coming to Uganda for.
